Where To Find Free Divorce Records

The divorce record Missouri manages and issues to its people are one of the many documents that the residents of the state have access. This was done in accordance to the Freedom of Information Act. The said act lets the residents of a certain state to have freedom towards accessing their personal records in government offices.

Divorce records in Missouri are requested by the local residents to use for a number of reasons. One is to use it for government transactions. A divorcee needs to update their status in the government records and one of the required documents that need to be submitted is the divorce records. Any transactions that involve the finances of the couple would call for a copy of a divorce certificate. Application for remarriage would call for a copy of the divorce certificates. This is to prove ones marital status. In addition to that, such document is also used as a reference when conducting a background check especially when looking up information about the marital status of an individual.

Information about when and where the separation was granted is the primary information that can be obtained from the said document. One will know the names of the divorcees. The document, however, only has the basic details shown on a public file. Further details about the separation are only available to the people involved. Details such as why the separation was filed and the name of the one who filed the separation are one of the information that is not available to the public. Also, details about the agreement the couple's assets and properties remain private. The children's custody is not visible on a public document.

Unlike other states in the country, the state of Missouri does not release a copy of a divorce record through the Department of Health. One can only request it at the Clerk of the Circuit County where the divorce has been registered. If the county of registration is unknown, the Vital Records Section can help provide information about where the request can be done. One has to pay $15 as a retrieval fee and the state has only kept records from July 1948.

In order to get access to the divorce records of the state, one has to submit the request form that contains the details about the document being requested. Also the form should have the personal details of the one who filed the request. Although the document is a public file, not everyone has the freedom to access the file. Only the divorcees are allowed to request for a copy of their divorce papers unless an authorization letter is presented.
