Growing Organic Veggies With Aquaculture Hydroponics

By William Cole

The technology is not well understood across the world. There are several questions people are still asking, and most people are unsure if it is the way to go given the increasing campaigns for healthy food products. This can be described as a revolution I the way farming is done. It is unique in several aspects and gives 100% organic products. Aquaculture Hydroponics is simply a combination of hydroponics and aquaculture. It can easily be set up at home and works very well for highly congested places.

Hydroponics is simply the technique of growing plants without soil. The techniques rely on exposing the plant roots directly to waters rich in nutrients required by the plant. It has been used to successfully grow plants like lettuce, several salad greens as well as succulent herbs including basil.

The second farming method involved is the Aquaculture which is a technique that has been used in fish farming for the purpose of consumption. The two farming techniques produce waste, and the waste produced can meet each other's food requirement.

By exposing plant roots directly to the nitrite rich water, there is no need for soil in planting and sustaining the plant. The water provides all the nutrients that the plant needs for healthy growth. On the other hands, the plant absorbs all nitrites from the water, resulting in clean water that can be used by the fish again.

By bringing in ammonia breaking bacteria to the equation, the weakness of one system becomes the solution to the other system. These are harmless bacteria that break down the ammonia to nitrites that are absorbed by the crops. When the water laden with nitrites is exposed to crop roots, the nitrites are absorbed by the plant and the clean water can be reused by the fish. The result is the Aquaponics.

As such, the nitrates are left to concentrate to a suitable level after which seeds are planted in netting pots. The nitrate-laden water is allowed to wash the roots, thereby delivering nitrates directly to the roots. The plants are able to grow and thrive in this way. When the nitrates are absorbed by the plants, the water is clean again and ready to be used by the fish.

Rapid growth in population, climate change and expansion of urban centers has all contributed to a reduction farming activity. Vegetables, fruits and other agricultural products have become very expensive and almost out of reach to many middle income earners and low income households. Those who can afford the vegies are also demanding 100% organic products given the increase in chronic ailments linked to poor eating habits and consumption of chemicals like lead and other metals that are highly concentrated in some food products.

The emergence of numerous environment-conscious individuals, there are Aquaponics systems offered to suit everyone's needs. You will eventually realize that the profitability of hydroponics and hydroponics kits and Aquaponics systems as a business can depend on several factors. They can be set up almost anywhere and are very cheap to maintain.
