They quickly grow bushy, outgrowing the container in the process and must therefore be thinned occasionally. This involves removing some culms from the ground level. N order to keep the plant small for offices and other indoor locations, the larger culms are removed. If the target is to keep the plant larger for outdoor locations, the small culms are thinned out instead.
