Organic Waste Disposal Tips And Methods

By Kimberly Johnson

The world is grappling with an increase in the amount of garbage being produced on daily basis. This has triggered a need for modern and effective organic waste disposal methods. The idea is to make maximum uses of what would be considered as waste and thus reduce the quantity that ends up in landfills. Here are tips that will help reduce the amount of garbage generated and also ensure that what has to be disposed is discarded appropriately.

The old adage says that prevention is always better than cure. The world seems to have a growing appetite for new items like dresses, containers, electronics, appliances, etc. The life spans of these new products are also extremely short. This has led to piling up of garbage, some of which cannot decompose easily. It is time to reduce the appetite for new things before even exhausting the old ones.

Recycling is for items that are labeled as such. This is an industrial process that transforms wastes into the genre of the initial product. The products that are commonly recycled include aluminum, paper, glass and plastics. This is an excellent and environmentally friendly way to deal with wastes instead of filling them in nature. The process of recycling requires extensive investment but generates income in return.

Incineration is the process of burning garbage out of existence. The most common by-product of incineration is inert ash and assorted gases. You will need an incinerator to dispose your garbage in this way. The challenge you will encounter using this method is pollution of the environment. In fact, you might not be allowed to incinerate where people live. Only incinerate the items whose disposal is indicated as such. Some can be toxic when disposed in this manner.

Composting passes as the most environmentally friendly method of dealing with organic wastes. The garbage is dumped into a pit and compressed for microbes to act on it. This process is extremely slow and requires extensive selection of what is dumped into the pit. It results in compost that is laden with natural nutrients and can be used as fertilizer for horticulture or gardening. You will need an extensive piece of land if you are dealing with a large population. The compost significantly boosts the fertility of your land.

Construction of sanitary landfills is one of the options available if garbage cannot be composted or recycled. This requires special ground preparation so that ground water or soil is not contaminated. The ground must be prepared using a special material that collects any liquid generated or sipping from the compressed garbage. This is substantial investment best for managing garbage for cities and large towns. It requires highly skilled technical assistance and can only be done in areas with low water tables.

Organic recycling is the most environmentally friendly approach. It is used for biodegradable garbage like what comes out of the kitchen. It reduces the quantity that ends up in a landfill, cost of disposal and improves the quality of your soil. It makes the environment highly sustainable by preventing pollution. It is however not open for garbage that cannot decompose.

The best way to deal with garbage is to separate it. That which can decompose must be separated from the garbage that cannot. This will protect the environment and when done properly will become a source of income.
