Steps For Good Zen Meditation Grand Rapids

By Lisa Howard

Most people are lost in the thoughts of the past and those of the future. This has made many forget their purpose in life. It is important to take the time and listen to yourself trying to answer the question on the reason for life and death. Taking a few minutes to sit by yourself and relax in a peaceful environment will help you shed all your fears, plans, and ambitions and find yourself. Below is the guide on Zen meditation Grand Rapids.

To introspect well, there is a posture that you are expected to sit in, to ensure it is effective. It requires one to sit on the ground with legs crossed. To be a little comfortable, you can introduce a pillow but avoid using a chair. Then, have your back straight to reduce chances of you being too comfortable to fall asleep. You can do this for as long as you want though many people will do it for half an hour.

To be able to relax which is the whole reason for meditating, you will need to start controlling your breath. Breath can be easily controlled consciously or unconsciously. Controlling it using your mind is unconscious, and when you do it by yourself, it is conscious. Take deep breaths with your belly and not the chest until you relax. After relaxing, then breathe normally.

To concentrate well, get a secluded place that is very quiet. This will protect you from the various distractions like noise or passersby. After that, your first two to three minutes of introspection should be done with your eyes completely closed. This way you will pay attention to yourself fast and relax. After relaxing, you can have your eyes half open till the session comes to an end.

It is also important to note that when your eyes are halfway open, make sure your look is concentrated on one point. This point can either be on a wall, the flame from a candle, shadow in a room, or a rock on a beach. This way you can avoid things that can distract you as you meditate.

Another essential thing to consider when trying to introspect is the mantra. For cases of Zen meditation, the mantra is breathing. When concentrating you can decide to use an internal mantra which is the sound you make by yourself. The other is external which can be the sound of something like a drop of rain. The mantra is the thought that helps you focus your attention, and therefore, being able to concentrate.

There are many merits associated with introspection, and they include overcoming life fears. When practicing concentration, this technique helps you deal with your fears. By having fought your life worries, your primary focus becomes your life goals.

Lastly, besides the long-term impact of introspection, there are the short-term effects. These effects include stress and anxiety reduction. People with many fears in life usually are insecure and are always stressed. Meditation exercise comes in as a cure by helping you control your thoughts. If you have power over your thoughts, it means you can focus on what you want hence having the strength to fight stress.
