With Troubled Youth Programs Indianapolis Organizations Try To Help Young People

By Robert Parker

In days gone by communities looked after each other and nobody was left out in the cold. In this modern world, however, it is much different. People do not care for others and they focus on nothing but their own needs and wants. Young people, especially, are vulnerable to bad influences. Many of them have no income other than what they can beg on the streets and many others have no skills to find any employment at all. Without troubled youth programs Indianapolis youngsters will not stand a chance.

One of the main reasons why young people become wayward is that they do not have the loving support of a family that helps them develop into balanced young adults. So many parents are just too busy to pay proper attention to their children, leaving them to their own devices. Many organizations that try to help young people place a high priority on creating an atmosphere where they are supported and encouraged unconditionally.

Young people are under tremendous pressure. Jobs are scarce and many of them lack the skills necessary to find and hold a job. Many organizations therefore focus on equipping these youngsters with skills that will help them find employment. Some of them are even in partnership with some employers that are willing to give a youngster a chance or to help with training them.

A very large percentage of young people on the streets and in trouble suffer from a variety of behavioural problems. They need to cope, so they shun traditional values and they develop behaviour patterns that are harmful to themselves and society as a whole. Some organizations offer these young people counselling. The focus is on discovering their inner strengths, to develop a purpose in life and to formulate plans in order to achieve those goals.

Substance abuse is a major problem among young, disfranchised people. Many organizations focus on this problem, believing that training and counselling will not have any effect while the individual concerned is still dependent upon one or more substances. These rehabilitation programs are expensive and time consuming, however, and the drop out rate is disappointingly high. A single success, however, is cause for celebration.

Young people find it almost impossible to attend training sessions and counselling if they have nowhere to stay and if they are under nourished. Thankfully, some charities provide shelter and safety to these youngsters. Many even provide meals. They do extremely valuable food because safety and shelter is the very basis of human needs. The sad fact is that there are just not enough of these facilities.

Sadly, organizations doing their best to help often battle to do so because they simply do not have enough resources. Even government departments concerned with social development have extremely limited resources and they simply cannot meet the enormous need for help. This lack of resources means that fewer needy youngsters can be helped. Society as a whole should become involved and accept responsibility.

The future is in the hands of the youth. If a large portion of this group of people are disenfranchised, then society as a whole is in trouble. Programs that aim to help young people to become productive members of society should be supported and applauded.
