How One Can Avoid Therapy Abuse

It is important to promote a healthy relationship between the therapist and the client. Therapy abuse is defined as using imbalance of power in the therapeutic relationship to manipulate, control and exploit their clients. This often occurs in many forms, for instance, therapists encouraging their clients to do certain activities that are not within the best interest of the client, encouraging dependency, using their vulnerability for advantage, abandoning clients as well as engaging in unethical conducts with the clients.

In most cases people seek therapeutic assistance for various reasons. That is to improve their condition by providing healthy relationship in which clients feels safe and secure. Therefore, building relationship trust is essential in providing a healthy and stable environment making it possible for the client to express their troublesome feelings and emotions.

People often seek therapeutic assistance due to vast reasons. That is aimed at improvement of their relationship or solving their psychological problems. This can only be achieved if the client feels safe and comfortable with the counselor. This makes it necessary to effectively build a healthy relationship between the counselee and the counselor. This healthy and stable environment is essential in making it easy for the client to express their feelings and emotions.

Research indicates that, if a client was abused or abandoned child, they are more likely never to develop self-worth, self-esteem and appropriate boundaries. In the event that a person has not developed above things they are more likely to be a target for adult abuse. Notably, such individuals who have experienced an abuse in the past might not be able to distinguish between a violation and therapeutic process.

Their power is significantly influences clients. Therefore, might offer a long lasting damage or recovery plan. These abuses regularly occur and most of the instances go unreported. It is important to note that the process might negatively affect the client leading to suicidal attempts and hospitalization of the victims.

One can easily tell that they are being abused by the service providers, for instance, unprofessional activities, humiliation, intimidation, degrading, making erotic or sexual suggestive comments that are most likely to intimidate their clients among other activities. This makes it necessary to seek such services from alternative service providers.

There are numerous signs in which one can easily detect whether they are at risk of such abuse. For example, when one realizes that the individuals engaged in providing these services are unprofessional, degrading, humiliating, making suggestive sexual or erotic comments and intimidating the clients among others. They need to seek other alternatives.

Therapeutic process is aimed at making individuals to encounter and adjust to life challenges. Therefore, it is important to seek the service of professionally trained individuals who are experienced and licensed to offer such services to minimize harmful effects.
