A Brief Review Of The Shame DVD

By Raymond Campbell

When it comes to movies about sex addiction, some are better than others. For example, the Shame DVD provides a great view of a sex addict. For, the story portrays a well known business man whom has an insatiable need for sex. As such, it is a film which can be used to open a discussion with anyone whom might be showing symptoms of this type of addiction.

When it comes to the movie, Shame highlights a well known business man with a sex addiction. In the first 10 to 20 minutes, the film introduces the character, mostly through facial expressions. Then, once the man's sister comes to visit for an extended stay, life becomes more difficult.

In fact, most of the film uses facial expressions to relate these issues rather than dialogue or intense language. Whereas, other aspects such as great editing and cinematography also a play a part in telling the story. While this is the case, there have been a number of reviews in which the film has been slammed for the lack of dialogue and discussion.

Most critics and others whom provided bad reviews are also the ones whom labeled the film as the worse of 2011. For, while being the second film directed by Steve McQueen, many believe the film falls short of the first. The first being Hunger, a story which focuses on an Irish character who goes on a hunger strike in 1981. When looking for this film online, or in stores, it is important to not get it mixed up with The Hunger, for these are two distinct and different movies.

In Shame, the character's sister shows up without warning and plans to stay for an undetermined amount of time. As such, the sister now residing in the residence takes a lot of privacy away from the character. In addition, the lifestyle of the sister also begins to interfere with the ongoing practices which the man has been accustom to while living alone.

For example, when engaged with others, the man has the ability to laugh, smile and converse with others on a social basis. Whereas, when the character has time alone, sex and orgasm are constant cravings. As such, imagination, magazines and online pornography are often costly and time consuming.

When at work, the man tries hard but can not resist the urge to fantasize about co-workers and pictures which were seen earlier in magazines. As a result, the sex addiction becomes more public than private. For, it is during this period that the sex addiction also becomes visible to others which are integral in the life of the character.

As the beginning of the film shows the man naked covered up with a sheet, breathing intensely, it appears to most audiences that the character knows there is a problem. While, it may appear as though the man is preparing for a long day at work, there is mostly one thing and one thing on the man's mind, and that is For, that appears to be the one thing that at the time interferes with all aspects of life.

Once the sex addiction is revealed, there are many points in the film which equate the need for sex as being equal to that of a junkie in need of a fix. For, the character's sex addiction begins to interfere with all areas of life. Whether that be the daydreams and fantasies at work, financial issues, or the difficult relationship with the sister which continues to unravel throughout the film. .
