Many parents with teenage kids can attest that looking after a teenager is not a walk in the park. This is because teen years are mostly regarded as the most challenging years of a human beings life. It is one of the most delicate periods of people lives as teens try to navigate the delicate channel between babyhood and adulthood. One of the most challenging decisions that teens have to make is when to begin using drugs or alcohol. It is alright for teens to be curious about some things. However, it is imperative for teens to know those things that are good to try and those that they should never try. In most cases, teens do not have lot of activities to do at home when their parents go for work. They have ample time to explore new things including beer and drugs.

In case a teen has been through emotional turmoil, he or she is likely to find solace in drugs and substances. Basically, when one is high, it is not easy to notice things that are going on around him or her. He or she is likely to feel like all is well. However, this is only temporal. The problem will still be there by the time they are sober.

Some teens are also very rebellious. They want to test their maturity and prove a point to their parents. They also want to see what their parents can do. In most cases, this happens to teens that have strict and over protective parents. Instead of letting their parents know how they feel about their constant nagging, they find escape in alcohol and drugs.

The fact is that some teen abuse drugs due to lack of knowledge. They do not know how to cope with the challenges that come with being a teen. Training on substance abuse is therefore a necessity in teens.
