Bringing A Bouquet Of Tulips

By Jeffrey Myers

Some people like to eat meat. Other people like to eat foliage like vegetables and fruits. Ideally, most dieticians would advocate a mixture of both. As such, humans are subservient to nature in the sense that the natural world is where most foodstuffs come from. But human society has managed to control and cultivate nature though agriculture and farming. But the things that are consumed are not the only plants man has cultivated. Man has also cultivated decorative plants like Siam tulips, a flower.

The Siam tulip is a flower grown in what used to be, as the name suggests, Siam. The flower blooms in varying shades of red or pink, sometimes even brown. While it is referred to as a tulip, the flower itself is not a true tulip, and is in fact closer to ginger.

Humanity has had some cultural connection to flowers. Some myths depict humans as either coming from the bud of a flower. Other myths in other parts of the planet depict the flower as being a necessary ingredient in some spell or potion or being otherwise special in some other way. It is clear that plants play a clear and present role in human culture, though that role may vary depending on the specific cultural mythology involved.

There are a number of reasons flowers are grown by humans. For some, horticulture is a hobby, something to pass the time by and to keep busy. To some other people, horticulture is a profession, a means to make ends meet. The profession can be as simple as growing plants for a store to sell, actually selling the plants, or full on landscape architecture, shaping the grounds of estates or houses. Of course, flowers do have human uses.

But once the plants are grown, they are used for a variety of purposes. When a person needs to celebrate a milestone, a bouquet is traditional. A guest of honor can be given a big bouquet as a congratulatory gift. A suitor can bring a potential romantic partner some flowers during the courtship process.

Flowers are romantic, or at least some types of them are. During courtship, one partner will present the other with a bouquet, especially during the first date. Sometimes, the present is not a bouquet but a corsage to be worn on the wrist, this practice is especially prominent among teenagers. But the beginning of a relationship is not the only time a person can present their partner with plant life as a gift. In fact, a person can present their partner with plant life as a gift for no reason whatsoever. A person can also give flora as a present in order to issue an apology, and the more elaborate the arrangement, the more grievous the wrong.

But a flower is not just use for occasions and symbolic meaning. They are also used for decoration. A special occasion, like a wedding or an anniversary, can usually be marked by a distinctive centerpiece in the center of the table. Homes are also decorated with various flora, all in an effort to make a space more beautiful.

Sometimes, those in society just like the scent. While the Siam tulip has no scent, others do. Some just like smelling good and they like to be around things that smell good.

Nature covers the whole of the planet, and man is the dominant species of the world. Humankind may believe itself to the masters of the natural world. To some extent, that is true. Man can exert some control over the flora of the world. But to an even greater extent, humanity is in fact subservient to the natural world, entirely dependent on it for almost everything.
