Retractable Design Wall For Quilters

By Essie Osborn

Experienced quilters or those who are just starting out a first project must have a few minimum tools in order to do a good job. The equipment should include cutting tools or scissors, straight edge measuring devices, and needles. One other device which is not absolutely required, but is very helpful in organizing and taking care of your work is a retractable design wall for quilters. Here are some of the ways in which it can be a good device to have in your workroom.

The quilt walls are great for keeping fabric off the floor, where it can be stepped on by pets or people. A table for quilting also serves the same purpose, but one which is large enough to hold a large quilt top is going to take up a large amount of floor space. Laying out the blocks on a table top means that another surface is necessary in order to cut fabric or to work on another project. When the quilt is placed at eye level, your knees won't be challenged from crawling around on the floor.

The features of this equipment are designed to hold most fabric types in place without the need for pins. Usually a white or neutral-colored background is preferred, so that the colors in the design "pop". This makes it easier to see exactly what the colors will look like in the final design. Pieces can be moved around from one location to another.

Interruptions in the course of a quilting project are common. The retractable device offers a great solution for interruptions. You just retract the pieces and the backing into the device and everything remains in place and clean. There is no need to worry about lost pieces or the presence of dirt.

Installing the retractable wall is easy. It can be placed on a flat wall or over a door. It's best to use a retraction tool wide enough to allow ease of access. When you are working on your project, just release the equipment into place and it's right there in front of you. When you are ready to stop work for a time, the entire surface, including quilt pieces retracts into a small space.

The retractable equipment should be installed a hard flat wall in order to operate correctly. When you want to work with fabric pieces, just press them onto the device. If you want to try them in a different pattern, just pick up the piece and move it to the new location.

In order to remember options for quilt tops, it helps to photograph the designs. You can then upload the images to your computer for marketing purposes or for a way to job your memory about particular arrangements you want to try. If you want to sell your products, images are a must.

The quilters tool is simple in concept, but invaluable in organizing your quilting work. It keeps it in the place where you arrange it. You don't have to remember where you left off. The design is right where you arranged it the last time you worked with the design.
