Proper Way Of Taming Curcumas

By Linda Hayes

Having a house plant is never made hard and unappealing knowing that there are several flowers which both grow easily and are so beautiful when they do. One of those would be the curcuma flower which are entirely elegant to look at especially during summer when they bloom fully. They basically are so in love with heat that they do bloom during such season. This tropical plant comes in several hues such as pink, white and purple and sometimes an amazing combination of all three. They sure are perfecta and would accentuate the gardens making it more stand out than it is.

Unlike other tropical flowers, these specific species are way easier to maintain and tame. It will not need so much out from the gardener. That would be after they have ensured they have taken the right actions to plant it.

These flowers may be planted on their own in a garden and would do all the beautification. But when they are potted along with other flowers that may bloom during the season, it sure can make everything look extra better. However, these plants are highly known for being unable to withstand frost season, they often dies. When they do, they no longer grows back from the ground not unless they will be replanted.

To ensure their survival during winter, they may need to be placed on other locations. Place them on temporary pots so they could be carried away from the area they were planted. Find a spot which is frost fee and place them there for the entire summer to prolong their survival until the sun is out again.

Anyway for first time growers of these flowers, first thing they may want to do is find a spot where it gets ample sun exposure. But make sure that it also has some shady parts to keep the plant moist during full sunny weather. Make sure to choose soil which does not dry out easily or if so, it would be best to keep them in partial shade.

Such plants want the soil moist and those which are well drained. Also, to improve its quality even more, adding compost or any organic matter could help. For those clay and sand soil, be sure to add the compost way before the planting is done. At least, the soil has a room to actually be better in supporting the healthy growth of curcuma.

Make sure to be watering curcumas as regularly as possible especially if the area has no means of getting exposed to natural rain. Fertilize these plants during spring as well as summer with general purpose fertilizers of any kind. Make sure to only place enough amount based on the recommendation seen on the fertilizer cover.

Prune the plant during autumn. That way even when the other plants around them are fading and falling, they remain fresh and still looking good. This also would keep them tidy and nice to look at.

Some would recommend deadheading the entire curcuma plant to remove their faded flowers. However, it is okay not to do so. There would not be any problem at all even if they are kept that way.
